Here are more great excursion ideas on our beautiful island that you can enjoy as a family.

Join us on a journey to some of Madeira's most fascinating and family-friendly places. From thecolorful world of birds, a lovingly designed theme park, to breathtaking cliffs – Madeira has something for everyone.

So pack your bags and let's explore theisland's secrets together!

1. Ilha das Aves
Ilha das Aves is an enchanting bird park,about a 30-minute drive from the Hideaway. Here, you can admire over 200 birdspecies in a beautiful 7000 m² garden, including toucans, ibises, cockatoos, parrots and macaws. After a walk through the park, you can relax in the café, enjoy an ice cream and take in the view of the Atlantic. The kids will love the colorful birds and the whole family can enjoy a well-deserved break.
2. Parque Temático da Madeira
The Madeira Theme Park in Santana is afantastic place to discover the island's culture and traditions. Spread overseven hectares, the park offers numerous attractions and replicas that bringMadeira's history and traditions to life. Your children can watch artisans atwork in the village of typical Madeiran houses, explore the gardens, marvel ata replica of the Monte train, and take a leisurely boat ride on the lake. Agreat experience for the whole family!
3. Mercado dos Lavradores
Immerse yourself in the colors and scentsof Funchal's traditional farmer's market. Your children can sample exotic fruits and discover local specialties – a sensory experience for everyone.

It's the perfect place to learn about Madeira's culinary treasures and discover new flavors together. The market is a true feast for the eyes and taste buds and you'll take home many delicious memories. Besides the culinary delights, the market also offers an impressive selection of plants. If you feel like it, take home a cutting of a bird of paradise or a few flower bulbs as a souvenir.

Our tip: Enjoy a freshly pressed fruit juice at Macaronésia Café on the market hall's rooftop terrace and let your gaze wander over the old town's rooftops.

Be mindful of the prices for exotic fruits at the Mercado dos Lavradores. They can be quite high, so check the posted price per kilo beforehand!
4. Cabo Girão
At 580 meters, Cabo Girão is the highest sea cliff in Europe, offering a breathtaking view of the Atlantic and Madeira's coastline. The brave can venture onto the Skywalk with its glass floor platform. The dizzying view is simply stunning! Admission is free for children up to 12 years old; adults pay 2 Euros.
5. Natural Swimming Pools of Porto Moniz
The lava pools of Porto Moniz are a andmark on Madeira's north coast. They were formed thousands of years ago by a volcanic eruption and are now natural swimming pools that are simply fun. So pack your swimsuit and enjoy the swimming fun in a unique setting.
6. Jardim Tropical Monte Palace
The Jardim Tropical is a magical place in a great location on Monte, the "house mountain" of Funchal.

The best way to reach Monte is by cable car from Funchal. After the gondola ride, you'll find an enchanting botanical garden, covering over 70,000 m² and home to more than 100,000 plant species from around the world.

Your children will love the beautiful garden and the park's diverse wildlife, including swans, peacocks and koi fish.

For the adults, the park's bistro offers a complimentary Madeira wine tasting.

Our tip: Land Food & Coffee, just below the cable car's "mountain station," invites you to enjoy the great view, a homemade piece of cake and their house coffee.
